Arakurayama Fuji Sengen Shrine and its five-story pagoda is located in the beautiful Arakurayama Sengen Park. One of the best views of this spectacular mountain can be seen from the Chureito Pagoda. You’ll need to climb almost 400 steps or walk uphill to reach it, but every step will be worth it for the spectacular view. Oshino Village is a famous small village in the Fuji Five Lakes region, located between Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Yamanaka on the site of a former sixth lake that dried out several hundred years ago. It has a set of eight ponds which are fed by snowmelt from the slopes of nearby Mt Fuji. The snowmelt filters down the mountain through porous layers of lava taking over 80 years. Fuji-Yoshida Sengen Shrine stands in a dense forest and is set off from the road by a long approach lined by stone lanterns and shaded by tall cedar trees, some are said to be as old as 1,000 years. The shrine’s buildings, including the main hall, dates back to 1615. This shrine used to be the common starting point for climbing Mt. Fuji and the trailhead is still located directly behind the right side of the shrine’s main hall.
