Kamakura is famous for housing the second-tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan and countless other iconic temples, shrines and old artistic treasures. Located at the neck of the Miura Peninsula on the shore of Sagami Bay, it displays the great prosperity of the 12th and 13th centuries when Kamakura served as the seat of the Shogunate Government.
