ITINERARY: Depart 7 a.m. Umihotaru PA 9–9:45 a.m. Mt Nokogiri 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. (Ropeway and free time) Kanaya Port 1:30–3 p.m. (Lunch on your own) Ferry 3:20–4 p.m. Return 7 p.m. Tour includes bus transportation, one way ropeway and temple admission. This trip involves a lot of walking up and down steps. Some path on Mt. Nokogiri can get slippery. Food at the Kanaya port is mostly sea food. If the ropeway stops for any reasons, we will take the bus to mid mountain. If the Ferry boat is canceled, the tour will take the Aqua Line Highway back. Built on a 650m island surrounded by 360º of water, the “Umihotaru Parking Area” is located about midway on the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line Expressway. It is a bridge/tunnel combination with an overall length of 14 km, which includes a 4.4 km bridge and a 9.6 km tunnel. It is the fourth longest underwater tunnel in the world. Mt Nokogiri and its mountain range is shaped like the teeth of a saw. A Buddhist temple, Nihon-ji, is located near the summit and it dates back to 725. The highlight of Mount Nokogiri is the Jigoku Nozoki, or “peak in hell”, is a thrilling view point located at the mountain top. There are 400+ steps to get to the top, so it’s not a walk in the park. On this mountain, there are over 2,600 steps altogether. After “peaking in hell” let’s take a look at the Buddha statue carved out of stone located midway on the mountain. At 102 ft (31 m) it is as tall as a ten-story building. On our way back, we will take the 40-minute ferryboat across Tokyo Bay.
